We know that upon placement the birds are uncomfortable, and learning to adopt to their new environments. Bringing a parrot into your home is a life long commitment, and we do not want bird, nor our adopters to feel like the placement cannot be undone. We do not have a foster program, but to ensure adoptions will be successful, we foster to adopt once there is a bond is established. She is back at SLPR, but we have done a virtual adoption until she finds her forever home. It absolutely broke my heart, but Apple needed a different environment. Posted about my SAB listing a few weeks ago about not showing up in search only when you entered the exact name. I think one rescue near Dayton was actually run by a bird hoarder. The rescues I found near Cincinnati required extensive training and costs to re-home a parrot. Over a year later, things were happening and we realized we were just not a good fit for her. When I decided to look for a parrot as a companion, I looked at many listings and so called parrot rescues. She showed our Sun Conure how to do bird stuff-he wasn't a good flyer(his previous person had kept his wings clipped) and how to forage and get into things. We trained her to wear a harness, and she came with us to the park every Saturday morning. I was not yet, as I knew she was going to be a 20+ year commitment and it was just too soon.
